Executive Summary : | Polaritronics is a new research branch focusing on developing functional devices based on polaritonic state charge transport. The goal is to create hybrid light-matter states that can transport electron/energy as long as light is coherently coupled to a donor-acceptor system beyond the Förster distance. Polaritonic states are considered new-generation charge carriers due to their collective nature. Recent studies suggest that electron mobility can be boosted by strong coupling of an organic/inorganic semiconductor to a Fabry-Perot cavity mode. This is achieved by placing a thin film of semiconductor on top of a field effect transistor coupled Fabry-Perot (FET-FP) cavity to achieve an ON-resonance condition. The main focus is to understand and tailor the electron/energy transport behavior of transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) based 2-D materials through strong coupling. The proposal covers two aspects: (1) the study of energy transfer between physically separated donor-acceptor pairs connected by coupling to a cavity mode, and (2) charge transport in TMD-based 2-materials under strong light-matter coupling. The project aims to control charge transport in 2-D materials by fine-tuning the energy and polarization of the polaritonic states. |
