S&T Awards*
These awards have been instituted by DBT to accord recognition to the contributions of senior and young women scientists in the country working in the areas of biology and biotechnology who have made outstanding contributions in research, technology and product development. These awards are given in two separate categories: Senior (One) and Young (Two). The Senior Category award is bestowed upon a senior women scientist for life time contributions, who has done excellent research in the country and has applied it for benefit of students and society. The Award carries a cash prize of Rs 5 Lakh along with Citation and a Gold Medal. In the young category, the award is given to women scientists below 45 yrs of age for outstanding contributions in basic and applied research in the areas of biosciences and biotechnology that have potential for application/product and technology development. The contributions made during last 5 yrs (atleast 3 yrs continuous stay and work or 5 yrs stay and work in piece meal basis over a period of 10 yrs in India), would mainly be considered. The Award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 Lakh with Citation and a Gold Medal and Research Grant of Rs 5 Lakh per annum for a period of 5 yrs.
