Navodya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) was registered as a Society with the primary objective to provide good quality modern education to the talented children predominantly from the rural areas, without regard to their family's socio-economic condition. At present, it has 589 functional residential schools. Admission in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas is made on the basis of selection test which is designed to ensure that talented children from rural areas are able to compete without facing any disadvantage. The NVS aims at providing good quality modern education-including a strong component of culture, inculcation of values, awareness of the environment, adventure activities and physical education to the talented children of rural India.

• 1. Number of total enrolled students from different regions (267246), and number of functional JNVs (636) as on 31.03.2019. 2. The NVs schools have Parents Teachers Council. 3. Training Programmes (29) and thousands of trainees trained every year. 4. The NVS facilitates migration of students and three language formulas for national integration. 5. Academic facilities include: Innovations and experimentations in the teaching-learning process, Training/ workshop of teachers to adopt the latest educational technologies, Optimum use of Vidyalaya laboratories and library, Use of Mathematics and junior science laboratories, Use of ICT/ in class room transaction, Effective communication and Counselling, career counselling and motivational sessions. 6. The NVS conducts National Games and Sports Meets every year. 7. The Flagship Programs: Kala Utsav, Rangotsav, Student Band Competition, Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, and Seema Darshan. 8. The NVS offers Pace- Setting activities to galvanize the academic, social, cultural and community oriented environment of schools.
