The research proposes a synergetic approach to fruit preservation using polymer science, nanotechnology, and interfacial engineering principles. The project aims to address spoilage challenges, empower consumers, and minimize waste. It aims to overcome limitations of biopolymer-based packaging materials by using biopolymers reinforced with nanostructures like imogolite nanotubes and surface engineering. The study also explores the potential of imogolite nanotubes to facilitate sustained release of active ingredients, which prevent the attack of fungi and other pathogens, enhancing fruit preservation and shelf life. The project also focuses on intelligent packaging design, with a chromogen functionalized polymer-nanotube strip indicating fruit freshness and ripeness. This technique detects volatile organic compounds, enabling faster detection of spoilage and reliable fruit assessment. The embedding process fosters specific interactions between the marker and reagent, yielding dependable color indications. The proposed research problem not only addresses challenges in fruit preservation but also aligns with global sustainability goals.
