Executive Summary : | Cell migration is a crucial process in maintaining homeostasis in organisms, affecting the formation of tissues and organs in embryos and immune responses during foreign body attacks. Abnormalities in neural cell migration can lead to neuronal migration disorder (NMD), making tightly regulated migration essential for brain functionality. Data-driven modeling of cellular migration is still in its nascent phase, but studies have shown that randomness and abnormalities are associated with the speed and directionality of brain cell migration in patients with bipolar disorder. This project aims to use techniques from Nonlinear dynamics, Physics, and Applied Mathematics to create a model that best describes neural cell migration, characterizes stochasticity in the system, and captures inherent stochasticity more effectively. This approach can lead to a more realistic model of cellular migration, independent of the modeler. |
