Executive Summary :

In this project, a series of experiments on aircraft containment system material, with yield strength greater than 1000 MPa, will be conducted to extract constitutive and failure model parameters. The model will then be implemented in a numerical simulation for validation of tensile failure, and projectile impact at the coupon and component level. The primary challenges involve multiaxial and high strain rate experiments, with in situ diagnostics involving high-speed optical and thermal imaging, which are important in order to validate the model being used to capture the elasto-plastic behavior of the material. The specific model used for aircraft containment system will then be extended to armour steels used in armoured personel vehicles in India.
