Executive Summary :

Pnictogens are elements from group V of the periodic table that crystallize as layered crystals, with the number of layers influencing their electronic and photonic properties. The four elements, Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Arsenic, Antimony, and Bismuth, have been observed and studied experimentally. These two-dimensional materials have potential for future quantum technology applications, such as solid-state single photon emitters. The electronic structure of these materials depends on the number of layers, which can be tailored by external factors such as structural geometry, substrate interaction, optical power, temperature, optical polarization, intrinsic defects, electrostatic doping, chemical doping, electric field, and magnetic field. This study aims to explore light-matter interaction in recently discovered two-dimensional pnictogens in diverse experimental phase space using top-down approaches to fabricate monolayers and perform optical characterizations using non-destructive Raman and PL spectroscopy techniques. The research will provide fundamental insights into band structure engineering and knowledge for developing devices for future quantum technology applications.
