Executive Summary :

The goal of this project is to create ceramic nanofiltration membranes that can be used to filter out pharmaceuticals and antibiotics from wastewater. The goal of the project is to identify sources of high-risk water, create a stochastic model of the occurrence of antibiotics, treat these sources using ceramic nanofiltration, and destroy antibiotics by electrochemical oxidation. The process entails creating nanofiltration NF membranes, single and multi-channel ceramic ultrafiltration membranes, and microporous/mesoporous ceramic supports. Along with developing a process optimization system, the project also identifies possible sources of wastewater and water that contain higher concentrations of antibiotics.

With regard to the COVID-19 pandemic, the project intends to address the growing challenge of fresh water supply and the emergence of multi-drug resistant bacteria and viruses by developing a modular membrane-based process for separating drugs and antibiotics from wastewater. The project aims to eliminate and destroy antibiotics and drugs, preventing their entry into the human body. The BRICS partners will focus on various complementary approaches to address high-risk wastewater treatment in each country, including contaminated groundwater, municipal water, pharmaceutical, food production, fishing, and animal husbandry. The Russia team will fabricate nanofiltration membranes for the first time to isolate antibiotics from wastewater.
