Executive Summary :

The synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using smartly engineered AgNPs, specifically silver nitroprusside analogue nanoparticles (SNPANPs), is a novel approach for cancer therapy. The anti-bacterial activity of SNPANPs is well-established, and the group recently observed excellent anti-cancer activity of naked SNPANPs towards different cancer cell lines. The SWASTH BHARAT (Healthy India) program, initiated by the Indian Government, aims to prevent and cure non-communicable diseases such as cancers, cardiovascular diseases, and pulmonary diseases. The research proposal focuses on designing smart naked anti-cancer SNPANPs that can kill gynecological cancers, particularly ovarian cancer, the second most common gynecological cancer in India and western countries. Chemotherapy is the most commonly used treatment for cancer, but it has limitations such as non-specific toxicity and poor bioavailability. To address these issues, the researchers plan to design targeted drug delivery systems (TDDS) by combining SNPANPs with folic acid (FA) that specifically targets the folate receptors of ovarian cancers. The smartly designed engineered targeted nanomedicine (SNPANPs) are believed to synergistically combat this deadly disease. The target sector of the research grant proposal is developing affordable nanomedicine approaches for patients suffering from ovarian and other gynecological cancers.
