DigiBunai software proves to be a boon for the Handloom community
Details:
Handloom is the heart of India's textile heritage. It connects the livelihood to India's culture and traditions. Handloom artists are skilled designers who perform laborious production tasks by hand. Because so much time is spent on design and production, the market price of these products is high. The reliance on manual methods for design, sometimes resulting in human-generated errors spoils the appearance of the product, resulting in a price reduction. In addition, the manual method is concerned with keeping up with market trends. Furthermore, through the manual method, it is difficult to design the fabric with various designs and color combinations according to the customer demand using the manual method. If the produced fabric does not meet the needs of the customer, it is discarded, and the same amount of effort is required to produce an improved product.
“I’m a textile designer and an entrepreneur in Jorhat, Assam. DigiBunai is a beneficial software for designers and weavers because making the actual fabric and then seeking client approval takes time. With this software, the overall appearance of the product can be viewed digitally. Also, digital fabric with various color combinations can be shown to the clientbefore the fabric is manufactured. In addition, the weave and pattern can be changed to meet the needs of the client.”, said MrDibya Jyoti Puzari, the beneficiary.
To support the handloom community and to help them to cope with the increasing market trend, Digital India Cooperation has developed one of its kind open-source ICT-enabled software named DigiBunaiTM. Various training programs were conducted in the northeastern region of India to equip weavers, designers, and artisans with the required skills to use this software aiding in increasing their livelihood.
“I’m a fashion designer and an entrepreneur. Any design can be easily created and can be shown to clients. Through this software, the fabric can be visualized in different colors. Because of this software fabric wastage has been reduced and it isa time saver. The economy will also be improved as the clients can be satisfied with the outcome and more orders will be received”, said Jonamai Das, the beneficiary.
