Agro Techniques for Baby Corn Production

The technology developed is the production of Baby Corn; 1. Golden baby/PAC 792/PAC 793 found to be promising baby corn hybrids accepted by the consumers 2. Baby corn can be grown in 45cm*20cm spacing with the seed rate of 35-40kg/ha throughout the year with two plants per hill 3. Application of 150:75:40 kg NPK+10t FYM/ha found to be optimum for realizing higher baby corn yield with the application of 50% N at sowing and remaining 50% at 30 DAS 4. Baby corn requires 400-425 mm irrigation water with the water use efficiency of 17-19 kg/ha -mm (baby corn) and 75 to 85 kg/ha-mm (Green fodder) having critical stages at baby corn initiation (26 to 40 DAS) and baby corn development (41-harvest) 5. De tasseling is an important operation in the cultivation of baby corn soon after the tassel emergence 6. Baby corn is harvested in 7-8 pickings soon after the silk emergence for better quality babies 7. A well managed crop yields 70-80 q/ha of husked babies and 30-35 t/ha of green fodder with a B:C ratio of 2.5:1.0
