A Novel Universal Approach of Species Identification for Forensic Applications

Find application in: (i) Wild life forensics; (ii) Wild life conservation; (iii) Species identification of samples of unknown history to the level of its family genes and species. Developed a cost effective simple and quick method based on a polymerase chain reaction (PCR). It can be applied to identify vast range of animal species and does not require prior information about confiscated animal part. Existing methods are based on identification of some morphological features and/or the biochemical markers. Require expensive laboratory setups in which the vast collections of morphological and biochemical markers of different animals are maintained to provide the scientific evidence on wildlife offenses. Has limited effectiveness in establishing the exact identity of mutilated biological samples, skinned carcasses and tiny pieces of skin and meat commonly ceased by the investigation agencies.
