A process for the preparation of alkaline protease which comprises growing a fungal strain Conidiobolus conronatus isolated from Anekal, Karnatka, India, in a medium having pH 6.0 to 9.0, a carbon source and a nitrogen source under aerobic conditions in submerged culture, at a ranging between 20-30?C, for a period ranging between 2 to 6 days, harvesting the medium and separating the enzyme in liquid phase.
