The procedure involves the use of iodine, sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide and chlorine gas. The present method avoids the use of carcinogenic catalysts, costly membranes, several cost implicated process steps. This method is convenient to adopt for the iodised salt manufacturers and stops the possibility of adulteration.
