IN274230: A vapor phase adsorption process for desulphurisation of transportation fuel

The invention provides a vapour phase adsorption process for the removal of sulphur compounds from transportation fuel by adsorption using a metal exchanged zeolite based solid material as adsorbent to allow sulphur removal to ultra low levels meeting the fuel specification. The invention can minimize the known disadvantages of the processes described in the prior art by using specially designed metal exchanged zeolite adsorbent which selectively removes refractory sulphur compounds from an HDS effluent in a fixed bed adsorber under vapor phase conditions similar to an HDS reactor.
