IN278488: A process for the enrichment and recovery of titania and zircon from the waste plant sand of an alumina refinery

The invention provides a process for enriching and recovering titanium and zirconium bearing minerals from the waste plant sand resulting from an alumina refinary. This invention particularly relates to a process for the beneficiation of low grade TiO2 values, from the waste rejects [known as Plant Sand] containing a typical partial assay of 9.26%TiO2, 22.6%Al2O3, 4.6% SiO2, 60% Fe2O3, 1.9%Na2O and 0.44% ZrO2, to prepare a feed for downstream processes like synthetic rutile titanium carbide preparation etc. besides exploring the possibility of obtaining other value added minerals.
