IN315602: An improved metal composite coating reinforced with volcanic rock particles

The invention provides a nickel based metal matrix composite coating reinforced with porous volcanic rock particles particularly pumice deposited by electrodeposition. The coating has enhanced micro-hardness; low wear rate and high oxidation resistance when compared to plain Ni and Ni-Sic coatings. Nickel based metal matrix composite coating of present invention serve as replacement  coating for Ni-Sic, as Sic is cumbersome to prepare and is mostly imported. The invention uses commercially available pumice stone, which is significantly inexpensive when compared to Sic. Thus, the cost-effective electrodeposited Ni-pumice coating may be an alternative to the traditional Ni-Sic coating which is widely used for engine coating more particularly on trochoids of Wankel engines.
