IN345587: A facule and low temperature process for the preparation of Li4Mn5012 nanorods

The invention relates to a facile method for the synthesis of Li4Mn5012 nanorods at significantly low temperature (280-290oC). Nanostructured Li4Mn5012 was synthesized by using the pre-synthesized nanowires of gamma manganese oxyhydroxide (y- MnOOH) as manganese precursor. y-MnOOH nanowires and lithium nitrate salt was mixed thoroughly and then subjected to  annealing at 280-290°C up to 120 h. After carrying characterization using X-Ray diffraction (XRD), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Infra Red spectroscopy (IR) and Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass  Spectrometry (ICP-MS), it was confirmed that the spinel formed after heating for 110-120 h, is pure cubic phase Li4Mn5012  nanorods.
