IN345700: Alkyl pyrene-dihydropyrimidine-dione compounds for sensing of toxic metal cations and a process for the preparation thereof

Disclosed herein is an alkyl pyrene-dihydropyrimidine-dione compounds and its derivatives exhibiting charge transfer absorption being in the range of 350-500 nm and the emission in the range of 450-500 nm. It finds application in sensing of toxic metal cations. It is useful as optical and fluorescent chemosensor for detection of mercury Hg2+ with higher sensitivity and selectivity over the other  metal ions in aqueous medium. It also finds applications in the detection of Hg2+ ion present in the biological cells, only when the Hg2+ ion concentration exceeds the toxic level. The compound shows white light luminescence in its aggregated state when  illuminated with UV-light. Thus, the compound is very much useful for biosensing applications. Further, the invention provides a process for the preparation of the alkyl pyrene-dihydropyrimidine-dione compounds.
