IN359021: Silver nitroprusside nanoparticles and a process for the preparation thereof

The invention relates to silver nitroprusside nanoparticles (Ag2[Fe(CN)5NO]) and a process for the synthesis of silver nitroprusside nanoparticles (Ag2[Fe(CN)5NO]) having biomedical applications. The nanoparticles (AgSNPs) have been thoroughly characterised by several physiochemical techniques. These nanoparticles (AgSNPs) showed significant inhibition of the proliferation of different cancer cells in an in-vitro system and significant wound healing in the punch biopsy model in C57/BL6 mice. Additionally, the AgSNPs showed enhanced anti-bacterial activity towards gram-negative (Escherichia coli, Klebsiella aerogenes, monas aeruginosa) and gram-positive (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis) bacteria.
