IN362062: A process for the preparation of iron oxide pellets using sodium lignosulphonate containing materials and copper smelting slag

Bentonite is traditionally used as a binder in iron ore pelletization due to its excellent binding property. However, high alumina and silica content in bentonite increases slag volume and energy consumption in the blast furnace. In the present study, sodium Lignosulphonate containing organic materials and Copper smelting slag has been used as a binder to replace bentonite in hematite pellets. The developed pellet shows CCS of more than 240 kg pellet after induration at only 1250 degrees C. RI of the developed pellets was found to be much better than usual bentonite-added pellets. Thus, good quality pellets have been prepared using an organic binder and waste slag combination, eliminating bentonite.
