IN368021: A solid base catalyst for the single step synthesis of glycidol from glycerol

Alkali metal carbonate supported on mixed oxide solid base catalysts for the selective synthesis of glycidol from glycerol and alkyl carbonate has been disclosed herein. The catalyst comprising 2 to 40% alkali metal carbonate on mixed oxide catalyst. The catalyst contains required about of basis sites to does the both glycerol to glycerol carbonate and glycerol carbonate to glycidol in one pot operation with in short reaction times and mild conditions. The optimum reaction conditions were established on selected catalyst. The disclosed catalyst is easy to separate and reusable with high activity toward the synthesis of glycidol.
