IN375021: Sustained release reservoir based smart anticorrosive coating and its process thereof

This invention deals with sustained release reservoir based smart anticorrosive coating and its process thereof. A redox active Sustained Release Reservoir (SRR) based self passivating anticorrosive smart coating has been developed for corrosion protection of steel surfaces. The corrosion resistant property of the newly developed smart coating has been evaluated by various short term laboratory tests and some accelerated corrosion studies such as complete immersion test, potential measurements, electrochemical impedance measurements. The results of the above studies evidently indicate the superior corrosion resistant property of this self passivating anticorrosive smart coating system even under severe marine environmental condition. The smartness of the coating has been evaluated by SVET measurements which confirms the sustained release behavior of SRR. Because of the superior corrosion resistant property of this self passivating anticorrosive smart coating system, the corrosion initiation on the steel infrastructures exposed to aggressive environment is delayed or postponed. Consequently, the actual service life of infrastructures can be increased by several folds.
