Objective: Promotion of excellence and recognition of outstanding work in science and technology in the CSIR system.

Criteria: (i) Any scientist engaged in research work in any of the CSIR laboratories/institutes who is not more than 35 years of age as reckoned on 26 September (CSIR Foundation Day) of the preceeding year is eligible for the award (ii) The nominee should be a regular employee of CSIR holding a post of Scientist 'B' (or above) and should have joined the CSIR laboratory on or prior to 26th September of the previous year (iii) Neither a junior nor a senior technical assistant (JTA/STA) nor a quick hire fellow (QHF) is eligible for consideration.
