Announcement Time: During the period of Indian Machine Tools Exhibition.

Objective: (i) Promote research and development in the field of machine tools; (ii) To encourage design talent in the machine tool industry; (iii) To induce commercial exploitation of such innovative designs for the benefit of the user industry at large.

Criteria: (i) The entry for the award should in the name of a single individual and where the entries are sponsored by the companies or organisations, the sponsor should clearly indicate the name of the engineer, responsible for the design of the machine entered for the award. It will, however, be open to the company or organisation to furnish the names of more than one person in which case the trustees will equally distribute the award among these engineers in the case of that entry winning the award, (ii) Only designs that are available for commercial exploitation and for the benefit of the user industry shall be eligible for the award. Machines designed by an individual and/or companies or institutions for their captive use shall not be considered for the grant of the award, (iii) The award winning entry will be chosen only if the machine according to its designs has been demonstrated in actual working condition in IMTEX (Indian Machine Tools Exhibition). The entrants will have to make their own arrangements for such a demonstration at IMTEX and all expenses incurred therein will have to be borne by the participants. Machines exhibited in earlier IMTEX exhibitions will not be eligible, (iv) Designs developed or produced in technical collaboration or with the assistance of foreign manufacturers and/or designers will not be eligible for this award.
