Objective: The objective of the award is to foster and to fulfill the ambitious programmes started by Dr. Vikram Sarabhai

Criteria: These awards will be made to Indian Scientists who are below 45 years of age on 1st January 1993 for original work in the following fields : 1. Space Sciences (including Astronomy; Astrophysics Planetary and Atmospheric Sciences). 2. Space Applications (in the areas of Metrology Hydrology Remote Sensing and related ground thruths). 3) Electronics Informatics Telematics and Automation. 4. System Analysis or Management including non-linear non-equilibirium systems in natural and social sciences and technology. Although the overall work of the candidate would be taken into account the work done in India would be given prime consideration. The candidate should have to his creddit at least one or more of the following acheivements :1. Significant achievment in scientific research. 2. Important and successful adaption of new technology. 3. Planning development and Implementation of systems in the context of science and technology.
