Star College Scheme

DBT had therefore, launched a Programme for improving critical thinking and 'hands on' experimental work at undergraduate (college) level in sciences. It is expected to encourage more students to take up higher education in science.

Ministry / Department: Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India

Focus Area: Life Sciences and Biotechnology

Target Audience: College and University departments

Funding Agency: Department of Science and Technology (DBT)

Eligibility: The college should have at lease four B.Sc courses (3 for rural category) in basic/apllied sciences such as Botany, Zoology, Applied Life Sciences, Microbiology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology etc. For application under Star College Programme, the proposal should have at least two departments for maintaining inter-disciplinarity.

Purpose: Academic, Infrastructure, Professional Development, Teaching and Training.

Funding Cycle: The suppport under Star College Programme will be provided in 3 stages: Stage 1-Strengthening Stage: Funding for 3 years; Stage 2- Star Status Stage: Funding for 3 years; Stage 3- Star Mentor College: Stage funding for 2 years.
