Executive Summary : | Objective: The major objective of the project is to develop of Self Sustainable Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Disposal System (iMSWDS) for Bulk Waste Generator. The design capacity of the plant shall be 500/kgday & 250kg/day. The detailed objectives are as follows: Development of Mechanized Segregation Process: 100kg/hr; Development of Bio-methanation Plant of Organic Waste: 10cum or 20 cum capacity; Development of Composting Unit of BIO-degradable waste: 100kg/batch; Development of Vermi-composting of vegetable waste: 1-2ton/month; Development of Pyrolysis Plant for Plastic Waste : 20kg/batch or 50kg/batch; Development of Briquette Making Machine for Agro Waste: 50kg/hr Summary: The integrated municipal solid waste disposal (iMSWDS) process starts with the mechanized segregation of solid waste. The mechanized segregation system segregates solid waste into metallic waste (metal body, metal container etc.), biodegradable waste (foods, vegetables, fruits, grass etc.), non-biodegradable (plastics, packaging material, pouches, bottles etc.) & inert (glass, stones etc.) wastes. The bio-degradable waste shall be utilized in bio-methanation plant for generation of biogas which is high calorific value fuel and can be utilized for cooking purpose. The slurry is good organic manure and can be utilized as fertilizer. The vegetable waste shall be converted to compost through vermi-composting process. The vermi-compost shall be utilized in organic farming. The plastic waste shall be disposed of through pyrolysis process where wastes are heated at a temperature in the absence of oxygen and broken down to simpler substances forming oils, carbon after condensation. The pyrolysis oil is being termed as Petro Alternate Fuel (PAF), which can be used in industrial boilers, generators etc. The plastic waste or sanitary items shall be disposed of utilizing high temperature plasma. This shall convert the waste into syn-gas which can be utilized for generation of electricity. The agro waste shall be converted into briquettes which can be utilized as fuel. The overall process flow has been shown below in Fig.1 & the overla design and layout of the plant has been shown in Fig.2. The plant shall be operated utilizing mainly solar energy. The power shall be supplied from rooftop solar pV panels. In absence of solar energy, the plant can be run using gas engine utilizing the biogas. The plant shall be operated in stand-alone mode having self sustainability in terms of energy. |
