Executive Summary :

Terahertz THz technology is gaining interest for early disease diagnosis and monitoring. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for faster and more sensitive diagnostic methods. Researchers aim to investigate advanced THz sensing technology and the potential of metamaterial-based sensors for virus detection. This technology could be used in electromagnetic absorbers, filters, and sensors related to viral presence. The proposal aims to collaborate with Indian scientists to develop and optimize new metamaterial structures for applications in human health protection, nanoorganism detection, and THz devices for information and communication technologies. The project will involve developing a theoretical and simulation framework for studying metamaterial phenomena, designing terahertz metamaterial nano-gap sensors with enhanced sensitivity, optimizing parameters for maximum sensitivity of SARS-CoV-2, modeling an electrically tunable polarization modulator in the THz spectral range, and fostering knowledge sharing between the two countries. The project will also involve the exchange of research practices, fostering knowledge sharing, and joint application for multilateral calls. The project will also involve young researchers, promoting the project to students and other researchers within home institutions and local scientific communities.
