Executive Summary :

Active magnetic bearings (AMB) are designed without contact between the bearing and rotor, allowing operation without lubrication or mechanical wear. This allows for active vibration control, high speeds, and low maintenance costs. AMB applications include compressors, vacuum techniques, turbo machinery, machine tools, electric drives, energy-storing flywheels, space and physics instruments, non-contacting suspensions, and rotor dynamics identification. The proposed work aims to design AMB systems, evaluate parameters, and design controllers. The expected outcomes include advanced control algorithms, improved efficiency, and enhanced bearing design. The research could lead to the successful implementation of a new control algorithm that reduces vibrations and enhances stability, improving performance in high-speed applications. Additionally, the research could reveal design modifications that increase the bearing's load capacity, making it suitable for heavy-duty industrial processes. The research proposal aims to improve the state-of-the-art in active magnetic bearings, making them more efficient, reliable, and applicable across various industries and applications.
