Executive Summary :

The proposal aims to design, develop, and demonstrate a tabletop system for fabricating micro-needle patch devices for transdermal drug delivery applications. The objectives include developing a mould design compatible with the substrate formulation, fabricating negative moulds using Micro Machining technology, fabricating MNPs through lab-level casting, designing subsystems for table-top MNP casting systems, conducting verification tests of drug-loaded MNPs made through batch casting, standardizing the production of MNP using the batch casting system, conducting essential pre-clinical in vitro and in vivo evaluation of drug-loaded MNPs made through batch casting, and finalizing the batch casting process and preparation of a technology document.

The project aims to develop knowhow on producing microneedle patches MNPs in batches of reasonable numbers in sterile packed form for clinical use, benefiting the Indian pharma industry, healthcare sector, and the common public. The technology could also be available in bulk at a lower cost. The project also aims to provide a painless alternative to conventional hypodermic injections, reducing the generation of hazardous and non-degradable plastic and sharp waste.
