Executive Summary :

The development of a dry LAMP assay for the diagnosis of theileriosis in cattle, as well as a paper-based LAMP assay for the diagnosis of Theileriosis in cattle and Babesiosis in cattle, is being pursued. The new technology aims to develop a pen-side diagnostic test for the diagnosis of tick-borne haemoprotozoan parasites like Theileria and Babesia in cattle at the field or village level. A colorimetric loop mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay has been optimized for the diagnosis of theileriosis and babesiosis in cattle. This method does not require costly equipment and can be performed at the field level using a dry bath or water bath at 60 to 65176C within 60 minutes. The dry LAMP is being optimized under laboratory conditions and stability is being tested under room temperature and at 4176C. The paper-based LAMP is being optimized for the diagnosis of Theileriosis in cattle.

The point-of-care diagnostic dry LAMP for theileriosis and babesiosis in cattle is being developed, providing immediate treatment in 60 minutes, addressing the issue of inadequate diagnostic facilities for farmers in Karnataka.
