Executive Summary : | Considering the complicacies of transplantation, its cost and acute scarcity of the organ, many believe that LVAD will be a solution for tomorrow for a large number of heart ailments. It definitely promises enhanced life span and improved life style.
The project entitled 'Development of a Cost Effective Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) with Centrifugal Mechanical Circulator, Drive System, and Associated Control' proposes to design, develop and build a centrifugal mechanical circulator, its drive system, and control. Further, it aims to assemble them into a laboratory based model for left ventricular assist device. Emphasis will be given to the restriction of weight, volume, power, cost, reliability and biocompatibility. The aim is the indigenous development of LVAD with inputs from diverse field- fluid mechanics, hemodynamics, electrical machine and control cardiology, material science and manufacturing with an emphasis to cost reduction. |
