Executive Summary :

Recycling of CO2 to valuable chemicals paid significant attention due to environmental issues as well as sustainable carbon sequestration. Current proposal aims to develop hybrid photocatalysts for visible light assisted conversion of CO2 to value added products. Efforts will be made to develop efficient photocatalyst by tailoring the surface morphology (faceted nanostructures), band gap engineering, suitable nanocomposite formation with porous polymer, heterostructure formation with g-C3N4, Mbene etc. synthesized catalysts will be utilized for the conversion/insertion of CO2 into different organic molecules. In this process CO2 will be used for carboxylation, alkylation of different organic substances and cyclic carbonates synthesis which lead to formation of many industrially important fine chemicals. Further, the catalytic system will be utilized for photocatalytic hydrogenation of CO2 using biomass derived HMF as hydrogen source which results in the formation of DFF, an important fine chemical. The main objectives of the current proposal is to synthesize catalyst with exposed crystal facets in different planes, high surface area and porous nanocomposite catalyst development by the integration of porous polymer. Emphasis will be made to develop the catalysts by utilizing earth abundant elements which leads to a cost effective way to CO2 mitigation.
