Executive Summary :

Given the lack of dedicated Centre of Excellence CoE in India to address mitigation of CO2 emissions to achieve Net Zero aspirations of Indian Government, CSIR-NEERI proposed to develop CoE to work on CO2 mitigation technologies relevant to Indian industrial needs, formulation of energy paths to achieve net zero and evaluation of carbon sinks. One of the primary activities of the Centre is to focus on Carbon Capture, Utilization, and storage CCSU and application of renewable energy such as solar to assess the reduction in carbon emissions to move towards carbon neutrality in Indian energy demand. The Centre primarily focus on developing CO2 emission scenario in the Indian context 2. review of existing CO2 mitigation technologies and evaluating their CO2 mitigation potential 3. nanotechnology/nanomaterials intervention for CO2 capture at elevated temperatures 4. solar driven CO2 capture 5. CO2 sink potential of different Indian ecosystems 6. carbon foot-prints for various industrial sectors and 6. sustainability assessment of reduction of CO2 emissions due to change in clean energy sources. Formulation of new policies and regulations in line with Indian government commitment for Net Zero is another high priority of this Centre. The Centre collaborate with academicians and experts in the specified areas of cross-disciplinary research during invention and developing solutions to climate change mitigation problems.
