Executive Summary :

The Darjeeling Himalayan Region (DHR) is a highly sensitive area to the adverse impacts of climate change. The State Action Plan on Climate Change - West Bengal, 2012 2017-2020 aims to assess the vulnerability and risk of the region, covering physical, biological, and socio-cultural aspects. The study's outcome will be used to prepare an adaptation strategy for sustaining the ecological resilience of the Himalayan ecosystem and ensuring sustainable development. A comprehensive database will be generated using satellite data products and other relevant data from various organizations and research institutes. The base maps will be produced on 110,000 scales, and the derived datasets will be used to create Hazard, Exposure, and Vulnerability indices. The study requires input from various departments and agencies to strengthen institutional capacities in climate change context. The adaptation strategy will be shared with concerned departments for climate proofing, capacity building, resilience development, infrastructure development, and sustainable developmental planning.
