Executive Summary : | Background- Food chemicals present a relatively unexplored area of research for enhancing health benefit and development of drugs. Research question- With the help of modern cheminformatics, chemometrics, structure-function relationships, read-across and network analysis, it is possible to derive useful information regarding food-drug interaction, food-disease relation, identification of potential leads from food chemicals for new drug development. Very limited studies have been performed in this direction. Methodology- The project plans to use Principal Component Analysis of computed molecular descriptors of food chemicals for chemical categorization and understanding the chemical space, application of read-across for exploring food-drug interactions, application of structure-based modelling for finding new drug leads. Proposed outcome- The present proposal aims to undertake these studies along with development of a comprehensive data base of food chemicals with computed molecular prioperties and features for future analysis. |
