Executive Summary :

The increasing demand for intelligent transport systems has led to significant research in Vehicular Adhoc Networks (VANETs). In VANETs, vehicles exchange information with roadside infrastructure for applications like safety, traffic management, and infotainment. Index coding is a technique that allows senders to transmit messages to multiple receivers over a shared communication channel with minimal transmission cost. It can be used to improve data transmission efficiency in VANETs, reducing the amount of data needed between vehicles. Recent works have used index coding techniques and modulation in VANETs, such as Index Coded Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (IC-NOMA) for improved spectral efficiency. This project proposes applying index coding techniques to more general and practical scenarios in VANETs, considering the unique characteristics of vehicular networks such as mobility and intermittent connectivity. The research will analyze the performance of index coding in VANETs with respect to different parameters, develop novel index coding techniques for VANETs, evaluate the performance of proposed solutions through simulation studies, investigate trade-offs between index coding performance and computational complexity, and identify potential applications and future directions for index coding in VANETs. The proposed scheme is expected to improve data dissemination efficiency while minimizing overhead and delay.
