Executive Summary : | The CirRe-Dyeing project aims to develop a cost-effective and sustainable platform for recycling textile dyes, reducing costs of materials, water, and wastewater treatments, and enhancing the eco-friendly image and health security of textile industries. The project focuses on the use of Aqueous Biphasic Systems ABS for extracting, concentrating, and recycling dyes from textile wastewater, and integrates with subsequent operations for cleaning and reusing water. The best extractive performance ABS will be integrated with subsequent polishing, recycling, and water treatment operations for efficient reuse of dyes and water. The long-term sustainability of the ABS-based technology will be assessed through techno-economic and life cycle analysis. The project will focus on a textile dyeing wastewater from industries in Surat Gujarat, Chennai, and Erode Tamilnadu, India, with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Portuguese University of Technology (UC) teams working together to provide relevant and innovative solutions. The project will involve bibliographic revision, characterization of major chemical pollutants, determination and characterization of ABS, partition studies using commercial dyes, and design and optimization of the ABS-based extraction platform using real effluents. |
