Executive Summary :

With an aim to make India a manufacturing hub of the globe it is imperative to adapt to the latest enabling technologies such as Digital manufacturing, Industry 4.0, IoT, Artificial Intelligence & Machine learning (AI/ML) as well as Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR). Research and development is undertaken at COEP in these areas with a view to create infrastructure and build expertise in these emerging areas. Digital twin provides an effective way for the cyber-physical integration of manufacturing. Machining centres play a vital role in an industry as their performance extensively affects effectiveness and efficiency of production. In order to cope up with the requirements smart and intelligent factory, there exists a need of upgrading current CNC machining centres to an advanced level in terms of autonomy, intelligence, accessibility, and connectivity. The proposed project integrates physical and virtual spaces thereby realizing a digital twin of a manufacturing system which provides the integrated platform necessary to harness the potential of generated data. This would see more data-based corrective actions taken in real-time to increase productivity of manufacturing resources and optimize production lines. As manufacturing processes become increasingly digital, the digital twin is now within reach. By providing companies with a complete digital footprint of products, the digital twin enables companies to detect physical issues sooner, predict outcomes more accurately, and build better products.
