Executive Summary : | Wheat rusts especially the stripe and leaf rust are appearing every year in the north western plains zone of India and are responsible for varied yield losses depending upon the variety, prevalence of suitable weather conditions etc. After every 3-4 years a race of the pathogen evolve which overcome the rust resistance gene present in the most commonly cultivated variety due to its polycyclic nature. To keep pace with the fast evolution of the pathogen we the plant pathologists and plant breeders have to be one step ahead to have another good variety having different resistance genes. so the pathologists and breeders are always in search of the new gene sources to widen the gene pool so that epidemic like situation will not emerge. Keeping these points in view the present proposal is planned with the following objectives: (1)Race specific and field evaluation of germplasm and populations derived from exotic germplasm and landraces against stripe and leaf rust of wheat. (2)sequencing of resistant and susceptible bulks using 90K sNPchip array (3)Development of KAsP markers and their validation |
