Executive Summary : | The successful integration of pedestrian access to bus stops and urban local bus service largely depends on the attractiveness of pedestrian access facility and operational characteristics of bus service. The need of this integration is also mentioned in the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation Mission, where integration of “pedestrian, non-motorized and public transport facilities” is considered as a major thrust area for enhancing urban mobility. In this study an approach will be demonstrated for rational identification of improvement strategies for pedestrian facility and operational characteristics of bus service such that together it brings social benefits to bus commuters using walk-access mode. The work emphasizes on behavior of pedestrian and their perceived benefits with respect to various quantitative and qualitative policy variables while addressing policy measures. The work will identify intervention areas covering pertinent domains such as engineering, technological, management etc. and provide a demonstrable improvement proposals for a typical mid-sized urban environment. |
