Executive Summary :

This project aims to create the first quantum-enhanced gravimeter, enabling precise measurements of Earth's gravity. The goal is to use quantum entanglement to achieve the first experimental demonstration of atomic gravimetry with quantum-enhanced sensitivity and develop new quantum-based protocols for entangled atomic gravimetry. This will result in atomic gravimeters with decreased size, weight, and power, potentially commercializing. Quantum sensors, however, are limited by quantum noise, which can be reduced through squeezing. Scientists at the Australian National University and IISER Pune are developing the first atomic gravimeter with sensitivity beyond the quantum-shot-noise limit, aiming to improve gravity sensing capabilities for water and mineral resources. The project will combine high-precision atomic gravimeters and high-sensitivity atom counting capabilities, resulting in a globally first atomic gravimeter with increased performance. The team will collaborate with a consortium of quantum systems experts to develop improved schemes exploiting non-classical quantum features. The collaboration will also benefit India and Australia by generating new technologies and skilled personnel, making both countries more competitive in the global market for quantum technologies. The project's socio-economic benefits include improved understanding of water aquifer behavior and improved resource discovery.
