Executive Summary :

The project aims at developing new catalysts and reactivity to transform inexpensive, readily available and simple molecules into more synthetically valuable chemicals that can be used for advancements in the drug research, agrochemicals and natural product research. In this picture, we propose to fashion well-defined catalysts of first row transition metals and tune their electronics/interaction with the various substrate molecule by employing the ligands of precise nature. One part of this project deals with the highly underexplored photochemistry of high-valent 3d-metal catalysts and blue LED irradiation on metal catalyst is the source of radical generation, trapping and propagation. The other category of catalysts that we aim to synthesize are NHC supported low valent catalysts of inexpensive metals, the role of ligands is again extremely important here to develop methodologies supporting Single Electron Transfer (SET) as the driving force of the boronic ester formation from substrate molecules. The project is supported by some preliminary results that the research group already observed and providing mechanistic data is crucial part of this project proposal.
