Executive Summary :

The Trans-Himalayan region is highly susceptible to climate change due to its biophysical setting, ecological fragility, and geographical location. This project aims to understand past and present climatic behavior in the region, focusing on lake sediments. The project will involve detailed field work, collection of lake sediments, mineralogy and geochemical studies, and stable isotope analysis. The study will be conducted under the SPLICE-CCP DST project, involving a multi-institutional/disciplinary team of scientists/academicians. The project will involve chemical analysis, interacting with national facilities and a carbon-hydrogen-nitrogen-sulphur CHNS elemental analyzer at the University of Ladakh. The project is budgeted at approximately INR INR 99.20 lakhs. The project aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the past climate shifts and their impact on the environment and landscape evolution.
