Details
Executive Summary : | The project proposal aims to estimate flow and transport parameters i.e. pore water velocity, dispersion coefficient, diffusion coefiicient and sorption coefficient in different types of soil by conducting soil column experiment. It further deals with the study of the effect of layered soil on spatial concentration profiles. Chemical tracer as chloride, fluoride, arsenic, nitrate, lead and bacteria, etc. will be used in the proposed study. PI also proposed to conduct the experiment to investigate transport processes such as advection, dispersion, diffusion and sorption in fractured porous formation. At the end of this project, the project is expected to develop model for one-dimensional soil column experiment and two dimensional fractured porous formations. |

Achievements : | The project has contributed to the vision of the Ministry particularly to the theme of Hydrology by developing in house semi analytical software for the soil contamination aiming to translate knowledge and insights from Earth systems science into services for environmental benefit. The project developed the semi-analytical solution to capture the fate of the complex solutes in heterogeneous porous medium. The model will be helpful in identifying the factors affecting the movement of the chemical substances and their mass balancing, additionally the model can precisely map the parameter governing the transport of solute so that the flushing of the substance can be carried out. The sensors purchased in the projects, have been used to benchmark the calibration process considering for the appl |
