Title: | Determining the origin of the Simlipal Volcanics: meteoritic Impact vs effusive volcanism |
Area: | Astronomy & Space Sciences |
Focus Area: | Geology and Planetary Science |
Status: | Under Development |
Social Benefits: | The project being undertaken by ISRO in collaboration with academia is directly or indirectly beneficial to the society. |
Developing Agency: | Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh |

Brief Description
Description : | The project emphasizes on establishing whether the Simlipal volcanics is an impact melt sheet resulted from meteoritic impact or the result of effusive volcanism. The results of this project may establish a link between the sulphide and uranium mineralization suspected in the study area to the impact cratering processes. This will help in creating a spectral catalogue of impact related products in the VNIR and Mid-IR spectral domains. Finally, this project will use the microscopic, magnetic and spectroscopic line of evidence to determine the origin of the Simlipal volcanic in Orissa. |
