Description : | The maxillofacial region occupies the most prominent position in the human body, being usually highly vulnerable to injuries. There are changes in patterns of facial injuries, extent, clinical features, etc., resulting in mild-to-massive disfigurement of the maxillofacial skeleton, along with functional loss. Management of injuries in the maxillofacial complex remains a challenge for oral and maxillofacial surgeons, demanding both skill and a high level of expertise. There are various orthopedic areas also for which standard implants are not available, as well as in trauma cases where standard implants cannot be used e.g. pelvis and implants requiring revision surgery. Patient-specific implants developed from CT/MRI data of patients can be of great use. Custom implant for bone cancer/fungal infection patients is also of great importance, as with the custom fabrication technique, joint salvaging implants can be developed. |
