Details
Executive Summary : | Advanced Centre for Atmospheric Radar Research (ACARR) is a multidisciplinary research centre established by the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT). The ST radar at this facility is the first of its kind to be installed in an area close to the equator. In all meteorological conditions, this multipurpose wind profiler radar provides high-resolution wind data from an altitude of 315 metres to over 20 kilometres which could be utilised to observe and comprehend a wide range of atmospheric processes from the lower and middle atmosphere to the ionosphere. Apart from the wind profiling radar, the Radar Centre accommodates a diverse assemblage of supplementary remote sensing instruments also. The proposed facility "Equatorial Testbed for Atmospheric Observation, Modelling, and Technology Development (ATMOSTECH)" proposed by ACARR would provide a vast array of data sets for research and operational purposes. The "ATMOSTECH" proposal aids MoES outreach efforts by facilitating state-of-the-art research and advancing observational and modelling methodologies. Its primary objectives are to investigate the tropical region close to the equator, gain insights into physical processes, and improve numerical models. This facility augments the capacity to confront the intricate challenges presented by the perpetually evolving tropical region by cultivating a more all-encompassing comprehension of convection, turbulence, monsoons, cyclones, climate change, ionospheric dynamics, and radar technology advancement. |
