Executive Summary :

The project aims to develop in-house capability for manufacturing and assembling brazing components for operations at cryogenic temperatures, specifically liquid helium and lower. The cryostat will be assembled using locally manufactured components, with the cold head imported. The cryostat building involves a combination of common manufacturing techniques, such as machining, welding, brazing, and assembly of precision moving components. The exclusive metal process is Copper to Stainless steel brazing, which plays a vital role in thermal isolation. The project will involve optimizing brazing conditions using BvAg18 filler, heating components to a controlled 800oC in vacuum, designing a general purpose vacuum valve, and performing leak testing using He leak detectors. The outcome is to optimize brazing joints between stainless steel and oxygen-free highly conducting copper using vacuum brazing, develop a cryogenic housing solution for cold-heads, and manufacture a cryostat and variable temperature insert.
